Algal magnetic nickel oxide nanocatalyst in accelerated synthesis of pyridopyrimidine derivatives

Abstract: This research presents a novel biological route for the biosynthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) using marine macroalgae extract as a reducing and coating agent under optimized synthesis conditions. XRD and TEM analyses revealed that phytosynthesized NiO NPs are crystalline in nature with a spherical shape having a mean particle size of 32.64 nm. TGA results indicated the presence of marine-derived organic constituents on the surface of NiO NPs. It is found that biogenic NiO NPs with BET surface ar… Show more

“…The notion “biogenic” refers to a variety of biosynthetic pathways based on flora and fauna extracts. These natural resources include sea cucumber 3 , algae 4 , 5 , plants 6 , 7 , bacteria, yeast and fungi microorganisms among others 8 . Due to their intrinsic capabilities, green methodologies facilitate the reduction of dissolved metal ions to zero valence state and eventually yield the pertaining nanoparticles.…”

“…Nanoparticles (NPs) with at least one dimension sized from 1 to 100 nm 1 exhibit unique features owing to their extremely small size and high surface area to volume ratio, which have attributed to the significant differences in the properties over their bulk counterparts 1 , 2 . The increasing research in the field of nanotechnology has influenced many areas such as energy, medicine, electronics, environment, catalysts and space industries 3 5 .…”

“…The cytotoxic effect of synthesized NiO NPs (300, 400, and 500˚C) was investigated on Hep-G2, MCF-7, and HT-29 cancer cell lines using the MTT assay, which is established by the colorimetric assay. The MTT [3-(4,5dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay, as an indicator of cell viability and cytotoxicity, measures the cellular metabolic activity in mitochondria of cells treated with different compounds (43,44).…”

“…In order to solve the challenge of poisonous wastes, energy disparity, and for the sake of biocompatibility, an eco-friendly and greener procedure for the development of nanoparticles has been proposed (35)(36)(37)(38)(39)(40)(41)(42). Biodegradable materials such as microorganisms (MOs), fungi, and plants can be utilized to form NPs, among which the extracts of plants have more and more become prevalent nowadays (27,43). The sol-gel method is well known for obtaining highly pure and homogeneous products from simple and inexpensive methods (27).…”
