“…In comparison with various reported catalysts (Table ), PW/SiO 2 (30 wt%) performs well with a higher acrylic acid selectivity than Cs/ZSM‐35 zeolite, V 2 O 5 –P 2 O 5 and V‐P‐O/SBA‐15 . Compared with the other catalysts, this catalyst shows a comparable total yield of desired products, acrylic acid and methyl acrylate, with a low catalyst amount (3 g).…”

“…Vapor‐phase aldol condensation may consist of the following three steps: (i) the base sites of the catalyst surface attacked carboxyl group of acetic acid to form a carbon anion; (ii) the acid sites attacked the carbonyl group of the adsorbed formaldehyde, increasing the electrophilicity of the carbon atom; and (iii) the activated acetic acid and formaldehyde reacted to form an intermediate, probably 3‐hydroxypropanoic acid, by the formation of CC bond. And then the adjacent acid sites catalyzed the rapid dehydration of the intermediate to form acrylic acid …”

“…Bi or Nb, or supported on e. g . silica or zeolites . The best reported result up to now is 97 % AA selectivity at 75 % formaldehyde conversion over VPO activated in a butane‐air mixture, possessing an optimal surface composition consisting of δ‐VOPO 4 and (VO) 2 P 2 O 7 species .…”
