Acrylic acid synthesis via condensation of acetic acid and formaldehyde catalyzed by silica aerogel‐supported SiW/PW/PMo oxides

Abstract: BACKGROUND: The demand for acrylic acid continues to increase rapidly due to its widespread application. The traditional production of acrylic acid originates from non-sustainable propylene oxidation. Considering the environmental requirements and economic sustainable development, it is of great significance to exploit new routes to replace the petrochemical route.RESULTS: Comparison of silica aerogel-supported SiW/PW/PMo catalysts shows that PW/SiO 2 catalyst with 30 wt% loading and calcined at 450°C provides… Show more

“…In this context, glycerol, lactic acid, acetic acid, and furfural have all been demonstrated to be suitable biobased feedstocks to produce acrylic acid. 19,20 As petroleum feedstocks continue to be depleted and processes are further developed, we expect that bioderived acrylic acid will become increasingly commercially competitive in the future.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Presently, the mainstream production process of AA (MA) is a two-step oxidation of propylene. [8][9][10][11] However, petroleum-based propylene feedstock has been considerably affected by the world oil market. This drawback cannot be ignored, even though the superiority of the mainstream production process in terms of economic efficiency and simplicity of device design has been demonstrated.…”
