Albumin Submicron Particles with Entrapped Riboflavin—Fabrication and Characterization

Abstract: Although riboflavin (RF) belongs to the water-soluble vitamins of group B, its solubility is low. Therefore, the application of micro-formulations may help to overcome this limiting factor for the delivery of RF. In this study we immobilized RF in newly developed albumin submicron particles prepared using the Co-precipitation Crosslinking Dissolution technique (CCD-technique) of manganese chloride and sodium carbonate in the presence of human serum albumin (HSA) and RF. The resulting RF containing HSA particle… Show more

“…In addition, the stability of alginate-chitosan was measured over a five-month period at 4 • C in solution. Demonstrating a simple coprecipitation method of albumin submicron particles with good biocompatibility 900 ± 1000 nm [116] Jin et al [113] encapsulated RF using modified soy protein/dextran with the range of 143.3 nm size. The EE% and LC values of nanogels were up to 65.9% and up to 12%, respectively.…”

“…Therefore, the adsorption of NS into the particles might be dependent on the ratio of particle templates and NS concentration that is available for adsorption. As we know from a previous study involving fabricated particles by using the CCD-technique, MnCO 3 particle template displayed the potential to entrap poor water solubility such as riboflavin compound and these particles can carry an amount of riboflavin in water four times higher than the solubility of just riboflavin alone [ 18 ]. Furthermore, in a study involving curcumin as a hydrophobic molecule, it was found to be capable of being entrapped in the hydrophobic cavity of HSA nanoparticles [ 25 ].…”

“…Both particles demonstrated a submicron size with a weak level of autofluorescence from the glutaraldehyde. Generally, the size of the particles depends upon certain precipitation factors such as the type and concentration of the salt, temperature, pH, mixing speed, reaction time, and any additives [ 18 , 19 ].…”
