Maize is importance in the semiarid region due to its forage potential. However, the large number of hybrids on the market hampers the selection of the hybrid by the producer. Given the above, the objective of this paper is to identify genotypes with productive potential for forage and grain production according to the characteristics of the semiarid region of Brazil. Twenty genotypes with different genotypic classes were evaluated in two years (2018 and 2019) in the municipality of Gracho Cardoso, state of Sergipe. The experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD), with two replicates. Genotype characteristics, grain yield, and forage mass were evaluated and the results were estimated using mixed models and GT Biplots. The genotypic classes consisting of topcrosses and intervarietal hybrids showed high average grain yield and the three classes produced equally on average for forage mass. It was observed that the HI, HTC, and V genotypic classes were the most responsive for grain yield, forage mass, and dry matter content, respectively. Therefore, it is concluded that the genetically broad-based hybrids (HTC and HI) were the most promising for the semiarid of region of Sergipe, while interspecific hybrids were the most productive and stable.

Considerando que o conhecimento da necessidade hídrica da cultura contribui para um planejamento eficiente da irrigação e, para cada subperíodo fisiológico, as plantas requerem certa quantidade de calor, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo, determinar as necessidades hídricas e térmicas do milho cultivado nas condições climáticas do Submédio do Vale do São Francisco. A pesquisa foi conduzida de setembro a dezembro de 2018 no campo experimental do DTCS/UNEB em Juazeiro, BA. As cultivares utilizadas foram a BRS Caatingueiro e BRS Assum Preto. A evapotranspiração da cultura (ETc) foi obtida através de leituras diárias em evapotranspirômetros e a evapotranspiração de referência (ETo), obtida pelo método de Penman-Monteith. O coeficiente de cultura foi determinado pela relação Kc = ETc/ETo. Os graus-dia foram determinados pela diferença entre a temperatura média do ar e a temperatura base inferior (10 ºC). Para todo o ciclo da cultura, a BRS Caatingueiro apresentou ETc média de 6,5 mm, Kc de 1,13 e 1300,7 GD, a BRS Assum Preto, ETc de 7,1 mm, Kc de 1,23 e 1348,2 GD. Para as condições climáticas do Submédio do Vale do São Francisco, o consumo hídrico da cv. BRS Caatingueiro foi de 451,9 mm, para a cv. BRS Assum Preto, 509,7 mm. No estádio III, a condição climática foi decisiva para aumentar o consumo hídrico da cv. BRS Caatingueiro em 10,7%, comparado ao da cv. BRS Assum Preto. O monitoramento das condições climáticas in loco é determinante para estimativas corretas do consumo hídrico de culturas.
