Air Enthalpy as an IAQ Indicator in Hot and Humid Environment—Experimental Evaluation

Abstract: The authors studied the impact of indoor air humidity in the range of 60% to 90% on building user perception in the temperature range of 26 to 28 °C. The research thesis was put forward that the impact of humidity on indoor air quality dissatisfaction of building users in a warm and humid indoor environment is greater than that indicated in thermal comfort models. The presented experiment examined the indoor air quality perception of n = 28 subjects in the test chamber of a nearly zero energy building under te… Show more

“…For example, energy use and consumption of resources at the workplace contribute to emissions of greenhouse gases, priority air pollutants, chemical emissions, ozone-depleting emissions and radioactive emissions. These in turn have health impacts such as relatively higher temperature, higher humidity, poor indoor air quality, poor illumination and poor ventilation (Piasecki et al, 2020). Sustainable economic growth therefore depends on how technological advances, inventions and digital innovations -such as technological software, project management systems and various communication devices and channels -are adopted to make both work and workplace practices sustainable (Hansen & Hoffman, 2011; see also Chapter 14 on radical innovation).…”

“…Cumulative analysis highlighted significant deviation of -5.45 % in subtropical zone and 6.62 % in subtemperate zone of Jammu province. However, it's already proven that the enthalpy depends mainly on two parameters: temperature and humidity and with increase or decrease in temperature there is increase or decrease in enthalpy [22] that' why we have observed decrease in enthalpy with decrease in temperature in subtropical zone but the increased enthalpy in subtemperate zone can be correlated with increased air pressure [23].…”

“…The goals of a multi-domain experiment can be categorized into (i) evaluate the effect of specific building technologies or control strategies on occupant multi-domain comfort [119,[245][246][247][248][249][250]; (ii) understand cross-modal and interaction between different domains [46,72,[251][252][253][254][255][256][257][258][259][260][261][262][263][264][265][266][267][268]; (iii) model the physiological [97,100,228,269,270] or behavioural [271][272][273] response of occupant to combined multi-domain stimuli and to understand the effect of IEQ on stress [274,275]; (iv) identifying new multi-domain metrics such as air enthalpy [251], air distribution index [276] and bio-signals such as skin temperature [277] for the whole comfort. In some cases, the energy consequences of such multi-domain interactions are also captured, as for the studies investigating novel personalized thermostats [272,278,279]…”
