“…The following titles represent a sampling of the articles pertaining to general science that appeared in the literature during this time period: “Aspects of Biology in General Science and the Aims to Be Attained”(Van Buskirk, 1921), “General Science in the State of Washington”(Douglass & Bakke, 1921), “A General Science Project of Sewage Disposal”(Coats, 1927), “Are General Science Courses Meeting the Needs of the High School Student?”(Gersbacher, 1942), and “Thinking Versus Doing in General Science”(Simmons, 1948). Additional references were plentiful (Cochrane, 1945; Trafton, 1921; Hunter & Parker, 1942; Murphy, 1927; Richardson, 1945). Laughlin (1948) reported that general science was the only science required of all students in the city of Chicago.…”
