AHP Based SWOT Analysis for Green Manufacturing Strategy Selection

Abstract: Selecting an appropriate strategy is very important to the Green Manufacturing implementation. Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) analysis is a commonly used tool for strategic management. Here SWOT analysis in combination with AHP is used to the selection of GM strategy. The strategic factors system of SWOT analysis for GM strategy is constructed by analyzing internal and external environments of the enterprise. Then AHP based SWOT analysis is introduced in detail. A case study demonstrat… Show more

“…Govindan et al (2014) also used more than one MCDM techniques for evaluation of green manufacturing practices. SWOT analysis (strength, weakness, opportunities and threat) for GM strategy was constructed by using AHP approach in detail (Li et al, 2010). Wang et al (2012) in his paper used fuzzy logic, which is a popular method of incorporating uncertain parameters into the decision-making process, with analytic hierarchy process to form a decision-making model for different green initiatives in the fashion industry.…”

“…Designers wishing to promote sustainable manufacturing must weigh factors such as time, quality, resources, and costs along with environmental performance [73]. Conflicts between environmental, economic, and social (if able to be measured) factors are highly probably and require the application and development of Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) tools [74]. MCDM tools span a range of methods such as Gray Relational Analysis (GRA) and fuzzy logic, among others, and are often accompanied with a preference evaluation method such as Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) or Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to characterize the relative importance of assessment metrics [75,76].…”

“…An appropriate GM strategy suitable for the enterprise's status and future can be established by analyzing internal and external environments of the enterprise. The internal and external environments include top managers' attitudes, the enterprise's organization structure, technologies, financial situations, culture, government laws, industry policies, green trade barriers, resource and environment stress, green product certifications, customer's green requirements, green product prices, and so on (Li et al, 2010c).…”
