Agriculture residues and domestic effluents are contaminants that reach aquatic ecosystems leading to toxic effects to environment and human health. These contaminants impacting mainly developing countries, due to precarious treatment of effluents and lack of legislation in the use of pesticides. Perequê River (South of Brazil) is impacted by pesticides (mainly glyphosate) and domestic effluents. The aims of this study were to analyze the concentration of glyphosate in water and sediments of Perequê River; and to evaluate the sublethal effects of the river contamination in Astyanax altiparanae using biomarkers. A sampling of water, sediment and fish were carried out in Perequê River (November/2016). The samples were collected in two sites, site 1 (S1) that is located on agriculture area and water catchment point; and site 2 (S2) located on the area with a domestic effluents influence. Water and sediment samples were used to glyphosate quantification. Fish were collected and tissues (brain, muscle, liver) were used to biochemical and genetic biomarkers. Glyphosate were quantified in S1, which is impacted by agriculture. Alterations in the liver biomarkers were not observed between the sites. However, the decrease in the AChE activity was observed in the S2, showing that the mixture of contaminants (urban and agriculture contaminants) can lead to anticholinesterasic effects. The sublethal effects observed can be a threat of environmental and human health.

The objective of this research was to investigate, from the work history of patients with Parkinson's disease, followed at the neurology outpatient clinic of a university hospital, the occurrence and conditions of exposure to pesticides, as well as the perception of the relationship between exposure and illness. This is an exploratory and descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach, carried out at the Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná, in Cascavel, Paraná, Brazil. Thirty-two subjects, the user or family members, with Parkinson's disease were interviewed by telephone interview using a semi-structured script. Of these, 16 (50%) were men; most of them retired elderly (87.48%), with low education (53.13%); 25 (78.11%) worked in agriculture, living in rural areas from 11 to 30 years old; 24 (74.98%) stated that they had direct or indirect contact with pesticides; the most cited form of pesticide application was with costal spray; Most (75%) did not use personal protective equipment and learned to handle pesticides with family members. It is concluded that a significant number of individuals with Parkinson's disease had some labor activity in agriculture during life, many of them with direct contact with pesticides, either in the preparation and application or even in the washing of clothes. RESUMO O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar, a partir da história laboral de portadores da doença de Parkinson acompanhados no ambulatório de neurologia de um hospital universitário, a ocorrência e as condições da exposição a agrotóxicos, bem como a percepção da relação da exposição com o adoecimento. Trata-se de estudo exploratório e descritivo, com abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa, realizado no Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná, em Cascavel, Paraná, Brasil. Foram entrevistados 32 sujeitos, o usuário ou familiares, com doença de Parkinson, por meio de entrevista telefônica a partir de roteiro semiestruturado. Desses, 16 (50%) eram homens; a maioria idosos aposentados (87,48%), com baixa escolaridade (53,13%); 25 (78,11%) trabalharam na agricultura, residindo na área rural de 11 anos a 30 anos; 24 (74,98%) afirmaram ter tido contato com agrotóxicos de forma direta ou indireta; a forma mais citada de aplicação dos agrotóxicos foi com pulverizador costal; a maioria (75%) não utilizou equipamentos de proteção individual e aprendeu a manipular os agrotóxicos com familiares. Conclui-se que um número expressivo de indivíduos com doença de Parkinson teve alguma atividade laboral na agricultura durante a vida, muitos deles com contato direto com agrotóxicos, seja no preparo e aplicação ou mesmo na lavagem das roupas. RESUMOMelaleuca alternifolia é uma espécie florestal originária da Austrália, com abundante presença de óleo essencial de interesse econômico devido às reconhecidas propriedades bactericida e antifúngica contra patógenos humanos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de concentrações do óleo essencial de melaleuca sobre o crescimento in vitro de Sclerotinia sclerotiorum e Fusarium sp, fitopatógenos de relevante importância agrícola. Concentrações crescentes de óleo essencial de melaleuca (0; 0,1; 0,25; 0,5%) foram solubilizadas em meio de cultura batata-dextrose-ágar. Os meios foram vertidos em placas de Petri (90 mm de diâmetro), seguido da deposição de um disco de micélio fúngico (9 mm de diâmetro) dos fitopatógenos avaliados. As placas foram incubadas em temperatura de 25±1 °C e fotoperíodo de 12 horas. O crescimento micelial foi avaliado através da determinação do diâmetro médio das colônias com auxílio de paquímetro digital, decorridas 72 e 96 horas de incubação. A partir dos dados de crescimento, determinou-se a porcentagem de inibição do crescimento micelial. O óleo essencial de melaleuca apresentou efeito antifúngico aos fitopatógenos S. slerotiorum e Fusarium sp. As concentrações de 0,5% promoveram 100% de inibição do crescimento de ambos os gêneros fúngicos. Considerando os resultados obtidos neste trabalho, o óleo essencial de melaleuca demonstrou potencial para composição de bioprodutos destinados ao uso agrícola. ABSTRACTMelaleuca alternifolia is a forest species from Australia, with abundant presence of essential oil with economic interest due to the recognized bactericidal and antifungal properties against human pathogens. The objective of this article was to evaluate the effect of melaleuca essential oil concentrations on the in vitro growth of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Fusarium sp., phytopathogens of relevant agricultural importance. Increasing concentrations of M. alternifolia essential oil (0.1; 0.25; 0.5%) were solubilized in potato-dextrose-agar culture medium. The culture medium were poured into Petri dishes (90 mm diameter), followed by the deposition of a fungal mycelium disc (9 mm diameter) of the phytopathogens. Petri dishes were incubated at 25±1 °C and photoperiod of 12 hours. Mycelial growth was evaluated by determining the average diameter of the colonies with the aid of a digital caliper after 72 and 96 hours of incubation. The percentage inhibition was determined from the growth data. Melaleuca essential oil showed antifungal effect to S. slerotiorum and Fusarium sp. Concentrations of 0.5% promoted 100% growth inhibition of both fungal genera. Considering the results obtained in this study, the melaleuca essential oil showed potential for the composition of bioproducts for agricultural use.
