Agronomic evaluation of Paspalum notatum Flügge under the influence of photoperiod

Abstract: -The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of photoperiod on the forage yield by ecotypes and intraspecific hybrids of P. notatum. Tetraploid ecotypes from the United States Department of Agriculture and the National University of the Northeast in Argentina, in addition to six intraspecific hybrids, totaling 19 ecotypes, were assessed. The materials evaluated were subjected to an extended photoperiod (14 h of light) and natural photoperiod from July 2011 to October 2012. The experimental design… Show more

“…In addition, these materials have been characterized in relation to their genetics and morphology (Dahmer et al, 2008;Fachinetto et al, 2012;Pereira et al, 2012;Pereira et al 2015). Subsequently, these materials are subjected to intra or interspecific crosses, using duplicate diploid sex plants as the female parent (Huber et al, 2016;Machado et al, 2017).…”

“…notatum, plantas tetraploides sexuais são obtidas pela duplicação cromossômica da cultivar Pensacola, que é diploide e sexual (QUARIN et al, 2001;WEILER et al, 2015;MACHADO et al, 2017). No entanto, como a apomixia é ligada à poliploidia, muitas plantas tetraploidizadas tornam-se apomíticas, impedindo os cruzamentos (QUARIN et al, 2001).…”

“…Several studies of Paspalum species have aimed to find diploid accessions that can be used to perform intra or inter-specific crosses to obtain new cultivars [1,[10][11][12][13]. P. notatum, cultivar Pensacola, is a diploid, sexually reproducing cultivar that has been used, after chromosome doubling by colchicine, to perform crosses with apomictic parents [4,7,[14][15][16]. Other diploid species of Paspalum have also been used as sexual parents, after chromosome doubling, to obtain interspecific hybrids [4,17].…”
