Aggregation behavior of amphiphilic drug promazine hydrochloride and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate mixtures under the influence of NaCl/urea at various concentration and temperatures

Abstract: Micellization (aggregation) phenomenon of amphiphilic phenothiazine drug promazine hydrochloride (PMZ) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) mixtures in absence and attendance of 50 mmol•kg À1 NaCl (salt)/300 mmol•kg À1 urea was investigated conductometrically at five various temperatures (293.15-318.15 K) at gaps of T = 5 K. PMZ is employed for the cure of mania and schizophrenia. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values have been evaluated and defined in terms of hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity … Show more

“…Thermodynamic parameters can be utilized to understand the structural and environmental effects on the micellization. Thermodynamic parameters of pure amphiphiles (CTAB, SDS) and CTAB+SDS mixed systems in the absence/presence of chitosan were estimated by utilizing the subsequent equations (Kumar and Rub, ; Molla et al, ; Rub et al, ): normalΔGm0=()2gitalicRTlnXcmc normalΔHmO=()2gRT2[]dlnXitaliccmcdT ΔS0m=()ΔH0mΔG0m/T …”

“…The values of entropy change of micellization (normalΔSm0) of pure SDS, CTAB, and their mixed system were found to be positive in the absence/presence of chitosan at all temperatures studied (Table ), suggesting that micellization of pure and mixed systems is an entropy‐dominated phenomenon. The normalΔSm0 values of pure SDS, CTAB, and SDS + CTAB were found to increase with the increase of temperature resulting from reduced hydrophobic hydration at higher temperatures (Kumar and Rub, ). The normalΔSm0 values reduce with the increase of the mole fraction of CTAB ( α 1 ), which signifies that mixed micelles are highly ordered at a higher mole fraction of CTAB.…”

“…It can also be used to treat gonorrhea. Although a number of studies on the interaction of surfactants with different solute molecules including drugs are reported in the literature [3][4][5][6][7][8][9], to the best of our knowledge very little is known about the interaction of CFT with CTAB. In our previous papers, interaction of cephalosporin and beta lactum antibiotic drugs with ionic surfactants such as hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTAB), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), cetyldimethylethylammonium bromide (CDMEAB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in water and in aqueous solution of different salts were reported [4][5][6][7].…”

“…The obtained positive values of normalΔHc0 in water are due to disruption of the H 2 O structure in the hydrophobic portion of the amphiphilic molecules (Naqvi et al, ). On the other hand, the negative values of normalΔHc0 arise when hydration of water molecules around the polar group of the amphiphilic molecules becomes more significant as compared to the rupture of the H 2 O molecules around the hydrophobic portion (Hoque et al, ; Khan et al, ; Kumar et al, ; Kumar and Rub, ).…”
