Aggregation Behavior of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide Mixtures in Aqueous/Chitosan Solution at Various Temperatures: An Experimental and Theoretical Approach

Abstract: A conductometric study of the mixed micellization behavior between cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB, a cationic surfactant) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS, an anionic surfactant) was carried out in the absence/presence of various percentages of chitosan in the temperature range of 298.15–318.15 K. The deviations of critical micelle concentration (cmc) from the ideal values indicate the interaction between CTAB and SDS. The micellar mole fraction values according to different proposed models X1Rub (Rubingh… Show more

“…The conductivity meter was calibrated each time prior to its application through KCl having certain concentration. The conductivity measurement of all solutions was performed following the procedure reported in the literature (Amin et al, ; Hoque et al, ; Mahbub et al, , , , ). Stock solutions (25 mmol kg −1 ) of TTAB in aqueous/electrolyte medium had been constructed in the presence of CFH and inchmeal added to the corresponding solvent at a certain temperature.…”

“…Conductivity measurements were performed to elucidate the interactions between SDS (shown in Scheme 1) and CFH (shown in Scheme 2) in the presence/absence of polyols according to a process mentioned in the literature. [36][37][38][39][40] The specic conductivities of the SDS and SDS + CFH mixed systems with different concentrations of CFH in H 2 O and polyols (glucose/fructose) media were recorded with a conductivity meter (digital HI 2315, Hanna, Germany) with a dip cell; the cell constant provided by the company was 1.0 cm À1 . The precision of the employed conductivity meter was about AE0.5%.…”

“…When surfactants are added to any solvent, they undergo 'self-assembly' by balancing two opposing interactions (hydrophobic and hydrophilic) with the solvent. The self-assembled structure referred to as 'micelle' is formed after reaching a certain surfactant concentration called critical micelle concentration (CMC) Rub, 2019a, 2019b;Mahbub et al, 2019aMahbub et al, , 2019bMahbub et al, , 2019cMahbub et al, , 2019d.…”
