Age-specific seroprevalence of hepatitis A infection among children visited in pediatric hospitals of Tehran, Iran

Abstract: In summary, it seems that HAV infection is not highly endemic at least in some urban areas of Iran. On the basis of this epidemiologic data, post exposure prophylaxis would be necessary for children and young adults, and hepatitis A vaccination strategy should be revised.

“…Another study on 1018 children (six months to 14.9 years) referred to Tehran pediatrics hospitals in 2002 showed 22.3% HAV seropositivity. The seroprevalence did not differ significantly between males and females and for different age groups ( 26 ). Taghavi et al ( 27 ) reported anti-HAV seropositivity of 88.2% among the adult population in Fars province (Southern Iran) between 2008 and 2009.…”

“…These rates were increased to 100%, 90.6%, 68%, and 76% on the age of 10-15 years in those cities, respectively. Later to 2000, several seroepidemiological studies were carried out in different populations living in some parts of the country [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. Results, however, were not uniform.…”
