“…Bias can occur owing to several factors, such as data collection methods, different populations, the size of a dataset, the age range, and the method of analysis. Compared to other studies related to adult age estimation, our achieved accuracy was better than that reported in Zhang et al [21] (5.15 years as against 8.81 years) in terms of MAE. Moreover, our best result (0.80) indicates higher accuracy with a similar age range to the research reported by Jagannathan et al [38] (0.397), Aboshi et al [12] (0.698), and Tardivo et al [39] (0.47), in terms of the CCC.…”

“…Adult age estimation could be more complicated owing to the lack of vital developmental markers, such as bone degeneration. Various studies have used dental radiographs [ 18 21 ] for age assessment based on the Kvaal method. However, the dental age alone may not be sufficient for accurate age predictions for adults.…”

“…In the recent past, increasing numbers of publications have reported an approach to calculate the actual volume of the dental pulp or a quotient of the volume of the hard tooth substance and the pulp [21][22][23][24][25][26]. These methods are based on the cone-beam CT (CBCT) for imaging.…”

“…And the chosen of the maxillary central incisor can be explained for having a shorter length than the canines, larger pulp cavities than the lower incisors and a simpler root morphology than premolars and molars 23 , also allowing a simple morphometric analysis. With the exception of few studies 7,16,21,25 , the majority used completely erupted teeth, with fully formed root, without disease, caries, fracture, restorations nor root canal treatment, because pathological reasons and dental interventions can form a type of dentin 23 that is indistinguishable from secondary dentine in imaging scans. About the sample, when one proposes to determine a method in a population level, a considerable sample amount is expected, and the more expressive number were in the studies of Kazmi et al 4 , Zhan et al 32 and Gulsahi et al 5 .…”

“…This phenomenon can be evaluated using the methods of pulp/tooth area ratio or pulp/tooth volume ratio, through imaging scans 6 . According to Zhang et al 7 one or two-dimensional measuremants cannot reflect real three-dimensional morphological changes because secondary dentin deposition occurs on all surfaces of the pulp cavities. So, this study will perform an integrative review with the aim to provide to researchers and forensic team a quick and global comparison of studies that used three-dimensional radiological methods to analyze this deposition with the purpose of age estimation.…”
