Age at menarche and parity are independently associated with Anti‐Müllerian hormone, a marker of ovarian reserve, in filipino young adult women

Abstract: These findings suggest that individual variation in life history scheduling and reproductive history could contribute to variation in ovarian reserve. Moreover, they demonstrate the utility of AMH as a tool for human reproductive ecology, and highlight the need for further research clarifying the extent of human population variation in ovarian reserve and the behavioral and ecological influences underlying this variation.

“…Some studies report associations with lower AMH (16, 17, 1921) and some do not (6, 8, 9, 18, 22). Most prior studies have dichotomized tobacco smoking as ever/never or categorized as current/former/never.…”

“…AMH levels vary by age (68) and may be associated with reproductive history (including age at menarche, parity and oral contraceptive use) (7, 9, 10), ethnicity (11), socioeconomic status (10) and polycystic ovarian syndrome (12). Epidemiologic and clinical studies suggest that reproductive health, as measured by AMH, may also be impacted by other environmental exposures, such as radiation and smoking (13, 14).…”

“…This is surprising, since asthma normally is associated with early menarche. Later onset of menarche could impair these women's fertility, as it has been associated with increased risk of infertility and lower levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (lower ovarian reserve) [19,20]. However, data are conflicting, and others show either no association or the opposite tendency [21].…”

“…Systolic blood presMenopause is the event marking the cessation of ovarian activity sufficient to support monthly menstrual cycles. 1 Menopause is reported to occur at approximately 50 years of age, usually between 45 and 54 years in a healthy, wellnourished population worldwide. 2,3 The median age at menopause is earlier for women with an earlier age at their first childbirth, women with a late age at menarche and women who have had no children; menopause tends to occur at later ages among women with higher parity.…”
