“…The other and more difficult question is dealt with the peculiarities of the CYS(NAC)/Ag + complexes formation and their structure. According to our previous work, 21,22,25 the present data and the literature, 47–50 we can propose that the CYS/Ag + and NAC/Ag + complexes have a similar structure (Fig. 5, blue chains).…”

“…[18][19][20][21] We have shown that L-cysteine (CYS) can simultaneously act as a reducing, capping and gel-forming agent at the simplest mixing of its aqueous solution with silver salts under ambient conditions. [21][22][23][24][25] As a result of the research, we previously found that the surface state and size of the obtained nanoparticles directly determine the ability of the system to form a gel, as well as the properties of the final material: anticancer, catalytic, electrochemical, filmforming.…”

“…[33][34][35][36] We investigate the systems on the basis of aqueous solutions of CYS and silver salts. [37][38][39][40] In this work, we report an unusual self-assembly process with participation of simple components -L-cysteine, silver salt and water, leading to the formation of the supramolecular hydrogel containing amino acid-stabilized silver nanoparticles. The main method of obtaining CYS in the industry is the hydrolysis of the protein keratin-containing waste with a high content of cysteine-bird feathers, bristles, human hair, etc.…”

“…The use of different anions as initiators of the gel formation of LMWGs [31] is of particular interest because of their essential role in the environment and many biological processes [32][33][34]. Our scientific group found that a system based on aqueous solutions of L-cysteine and various silver salts is capable of forming a stable hydrosol [35][36][37][38][39][40] at quite a low dispersed phase concentration (0.01%). The self-assembly process is caused by the high affinity of silver ions to the thiol group of the amino acid.…”

“…However, the role of single-charge and those most important in the human body, such as halide anions, has not been discovered. Due to the fact that sols obtained on the basis of sulfur-containing amino acids and silver salts have shown various properties, such as anticancer [36,37], photocatalytic [38], antibacterial/antibiofilm [39] and film-forming [40] properties, the need to investigate the influence of various biologically active compounds on hydrosol colloidal stability and activity is relevant.…”
