“…Epidemiologic data has revealed that in infants with bronchiolitis, the prevalent pathogen is RSV and that it is strongly associated with wheezing. Currently, treatment with ribavirin and aerosolized albuterol are effective treatment strategies for acute RSV illnesses in children with asthma [22]. Preventive agents may be beneficial to this population also, in that RSV bronchiolitis or pneumonia in infancy is thought to contribute to the development of asthma in vulnerable individuals, but this is not clear.…”
