Advantages and Disadvantages of 1-Incision, 2-Incision, 3-Incision, and 4-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy: A Workflow Comparison Study

Abstract: A comparison of 1-port, 2-port, 3-port, and 4-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy techniques from the point of view of workflow criteria was made to both identify specific workflow components that can cause surgical disturbances and indicate good and bad practices. As a case study, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, including manual tasks and interactions within teamwork members, were video-recorded and analyzed on the basis of specially encoded workflow information. The parameters for comparison were defined as fo… Show more

“…Similarly, in the surgical field, accuracy in both the initial positioning of the hand when making an incision and displacement during execution is critical to the success of the surgical procedure [ 21 24 ]. The learning of these techniques, at least in the early stages, could benefit from the transfer of this new methodology as its development can also be decomposed into kinematic parameters.…”

“…[ 1 ] The procedure can be performed in different ways. [ 2 3 4 ] Conventional three-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (CLC) and single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SPLC) are common. The former was CLC defined as three or sometimes more ports surgery with ports placed at supra- or infra-umbilical areas, epigastrium or left lumber (French position) regions and right lumbar and right hypochondriac regions.…”
