Standard solutions for handling a large amount of measured data obtained from intelligent buildings are currently available as software tools in IoT platforms. These solutions optimize the operational and technical functions managing the quality of the indoor environment and factor in the real needs of residents. The paper examines the possibilities of increasing the accuracy of CO2 predictions in Smart Home Care (SHC) using the IBM SPSS software tools in the IoT to determine the occupancy times of a monitored SHC room. The processed data were compared at daily, weekly and monthly intervals for the spring and autumn periods. The Radial Basis Function (RBF) method was applied to predict CO2 levels from the measured indoor and outdoor temperatures and relative humidity. The most accurately predicted results were obtained from data processed at a daily interval. To increase the accuracy of CO2 predictions, a wavelet transform was applied to remove additive noise from the predicted signal. The prediction accuracy achieved in the selected experiments was greater than 95%.

This paper is focused on a description of a new method of detecting continuities in a binary image. The detecting method is called “Binary Large Object” (BLOB). A new algorithm with other elementary parameters, as processing speed and memory capability, are described here. The developed BLOB method with described algorithms is implemented in MATLAB. The simulation of the algorithms is tested in different conditions, with the time dependences determination. The research results of the computing time or the BLOB memory demand during computation are presented as well. The developed BLOB method is usable as one of the elementary image processing methods of the field detection dependencies in the images, like pattern recognition or OCR algorithm.

Challenges caused by the care of the ageing population in many countries are becoming increasingly severe. However, high expenditures on healthcare services and the cost of infrastructure construction will be an unbearable burden for both the government and individuals. Due to its security, convenience, and lower prices compared with traditional medical care, smart home technology, which includes information and communication technologies (ICTs), artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), can reduce the care burden. While smart home studies targeting older adults have increased, systematic analysis of these studies is lacking. CiteSpace enables rapid clustering and visualisation of the literature using scientific diagrams, exhibiting the results more comprehensibly. This analysis of academic research published within the last decade (from 2012 to 2023) through a scientometric approach can help to understand the historical variations, the latest technologies and emerging trends, and the research clusters that have emerged related to the study of smart homes for the elderly (SHFTE). The study results showed that recent research mainly centres on IoT for home automation and home-based healthcare, including wearable device applications and information security analysis. Research trends regarding SHFTE have focused primarily on developing and updating smart technologies based on the IoT, sensors, and related home monitoring. Therefore, greater emphasis must be placed on connecting smart homes and intelligent buildings with communities and societies, developing the potential of smart communities, and investigating the application of smart integration to the home and community in cities.
