Advanced Development of Bio-fertilizer Formulations Using Microorganisms as Inoculant for Sustainable Agriculture and Environment – A Review

Abstract: Conventional types of fertilizer such as chemical and synthetic fertilizers have demonstrated various adverse effects on the environment, crops, and humans. The utilization of plant probiotics as a bio-fertilizer in agriculture has been recognized to benefit the growth of the plant and inhibit the activity of plant pathogens. Traditional formulations of bio-fertilizer have provided insight into the beneficial use of microorganisms in crops. Despite its advantage to the environment, the effectiveness of traditi… Show more

“…In addition, the connection between PGPR and plants is fortified by cellular communication methods such as quorum sensing. This serves as a signaling mechanism through which the microorganisms gauge their environment and its activity within the rhizosphere [36]. The effect of drying along with different periods of storage of biofertilizer formulations by different methods was investigated in the growth and yield of tomato plants [37].…”

“…Carrier materials can be organic, inorganic, or synthetic with appropriate physicochemical properties for maintaining the microbial strains in good physiological condition under storage and on the field. Finally, quality control (QC), packaging, and storing biofertilizers based on carrier matrices are performed (Sarbani & Yahaya, 2022).…”
