Adsorption studies of Cd(II) onto Al2O3/Nb2O5 mixed oxide dispersed on silica matrix and its on-line preconcentration and determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry

Research ArticleVortex Assisted Liquid-Liquid Microextraction Using Triton X-114 for Ultratrace Cadmium Prior to Analysis A vortex-assisted liquid-liquid microextraction method coupled to micro-sample injection flame atomic absorption spectrometry for cadmium (Cd) determination in water samples, phenomena was established through phase separation of ionic surfactant in aqueous samples. The ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate [C 4 MIM][PF 6 ] was used as an extractant, while using Triton X-114 as dispersing medium. The chelate of Cd with ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC) was extracted into the fine droplets. The main factors affecting the recovery values of Cd, such as [C 4 MIM][PF 6 ], pH, TX-114, concentration of APDC, centrifugation time and rate were investigated in detail. At optimum experimental values of significant variables, preconcentration factor of 20 was obtained. The validity of developed method was checked by Cd determination in certified reference material of water (TMDA-54.4 fortified lake water) and the results were found good agreement with the certified values. The relative standard deviation was 4.2% for 100 mg Cd/L. The method was applied satisfactorily for the preconcentration of Cd in real samples.

In this work, SiO2/Nb2O5/ZnO prepared by the sol‐gel processing method was used as substrate base for immobilization of the protoporphyrin‐IX ion. Iron(III) ion was inserted into the porphyrin ring (SiNbZn‐PPFe). A simple square wave voltammetry method based on a composite sensor carbon paste electrode of this material,designed as EPC‐SiNbZn‐PPFe, was developed and validated successfully for the determination of L‐tryptophan (Trp). The optimum conditions were obtained by using sensor modified with 18.00 mg SiNbZn‐PPFe material, 12.00 mg graphite powder and 6.0 μL mineral oil and phosphate buffer 0.3 mol L−1 pH 7.0. The sensitivity of the sensor was found to be 0.523 AL mol −1, linear range from 10 to 70 μmol L−1 and limit of detection of 3.28 μmol L−1. Therefore, the developed method was successfully applied for the Trp determination in real samples of pharmaceutical formulation and can be used for routine quality control pharmaceutical formulations containing Trp.

This review presents a comprehensive update on the state-of-the-art of nanometer-sized materials in solid-phase extraction (SPE) of trace elements followed by atomic-spectrometry detection. Zero-dimensional nanomaterials (fullerene), one-dimensional nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, inorganic nanotubes, and nanowires), two-dimensional nanomaterials (nanofibers), and three-dimensional nanomaterials (nanoparticles, mesoporous nanoparticles, magnetic nanoparticles, and dendrimers) for SPE are discussed, with their application for trace-element analysis and their speciation in different matrices. A variety of other novel SPE sorbents, including restricted-access sorbents, ion-imprinted polymers, and metal-organic frameworks, are also discussed, although their applications in trace-element analysis are relatively scarce so far.
