Adsorption of CO2 onto Activated Carbons Prepared by Chemical Activation with Metallic Salts

Abstract: This article has been retracted due to honest error by the author. For further information, please see https://doi.org/10.1515/ijcre-2017-9198. Activated carbons are obtained by chemical activation of African Palm shells (Elaeis guineensis) with different impregnating agents, i. e. magnesium chloride (MgCl2) and calcium chloride (CaCl2) aqueous solutions at different concentrations (3, 5 and 7 % w/v) and temperatures (between 773 and 1073 K), in order to assess their influence on the development of the porosit… Show more

“…A raw version of activated carbons obtained from African palm shell (Elaeis guineensis) was modified chemically by impregnation with salts of CaCl 2 (GC2), MgCl 2 (GM2), and Cu(NO 3 ) 2 (GCu2) at 2% wt / v in a thermostat bath at 358 K for 48 h. The carbonization of the samples was carried out in a CARBOLITE ® horizontal tubular furnace (Carbolite-Gero, Hope, UK) in CO 2 atmosphere (110 mL × min −1 ) with a 5 K × min −1 heating ramp for 6 h at 1173 K [38,39]. Subsequently, these were washed with HCl 5% and water to remove remain salts until the pH was constant.…”

“…The process of activation generally leads to the formation of porous structures which can enhance the SSA. and property are largely influenced by the type of activators used like alkali, 149 metallic salts, 150 alkali metal carbonates, 151 and acids. 152 The role and comparison of different activators (i.e., CaCl 2 , ZnCl 2 and CuCl 2 ) for the preparation of porous carbon nanosphere were studied by Yu et al The methods of carbonization and activation were used for the synthesis of porous carbon nanospheres from the cellulose of corn straw.…”
