Adsorption behavior of Cu2+ and UO ions on crosslinked poly[2,2‐bis(acrylamido)acetic acid]

Abstract: SYNOPSISThe synthesis of a water-insoluble metal ion complexing resin was carried out by radical polymerization of 2,2-bis(acrylamido) acetic acid. The resin was characterized by elemental analyses, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermal analyses. The ability to bind copper(II), iron(II), iron(III), and uranium(V1) as well as the elution of the metal ions from the loaded resins were studied. For uranyl ions, pH 5 was the optimum sorption pH value. Sorption selectivity from the binary mixture Cu(I1) + U(V1) was studied… Show more

“…An amidoxime density of 2 mmol/g of dry fabric was achieved as reported in detail elsewhere. 26 Metal salts used in the adsorption experiments Cu(NO 3 ) 2 ion concentrations remaining in the solutions were determined by using Philips 8710 UV-Vis spectrophotometer by using sodium salicylate and ammonia as complexing agents for UO 2 2ϩ and Cu 2ϩ ions, respectively. The concentration of Pb 2ϩ ions was determined with an Hitachi AAS.…”

“…A polymeric ligand is used to selectively bind a specific metal ion in a mixture to isolate important metal ions from wastewater and aqueous media. [2][3][4][5] A polymeric ligand is usually used in an insoluble resin form to separate a specific metal ion from a liquid containing a mixture of metal ions. For example, uranium is a potential environmental pollutant, especially in mining industry wastewater, and the migration of uranium in nature is important in this context.…”

“…Its absorption on 1656 and 1589 cm Ϫ1 of the PU carboxylate (CO 2 Ϫ ) carbonyl stretching frequencies increased and the absorption of the carboxylic acid (at 1716 cm Ϫ1 ) decreased 6 (Fig. 2).…”

“…The polymer of vinyl benzoylacetone was prepared from vinyl benzaldehyde and co-polymerized to polymer, which readily forms complexes with Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II) and Au(II) [10]. The free radical polymerization of Cu(II) complex with Schiff's base ligand containing vinyl group and radical polymerization of methacrylate monomers coordinated to Co(II) have been reported [11].…”
