Adsorbents Made of Inorganic Industrial Waste

The article shows the possibility of using solid production waste for sorption decolorization of wastewater from textile enterprises. It was proved that leather shavings have the best ability to absorb water-soluble dyes in a stationary mode among other traditional adsorbents of silica gel, zeolite, shungite, clays, activated carbon (dye absorbtion in a stationary mode is 99.6%). Leather shavings absorbtion capacity of various dyes was calculated in dynamic mode. Leather shavings high efficiency in reducing the spent solutions colorization of mono and mixed color solution was confirmed. Confirmed reuse of leather shavings to absorb dyes.

An analysis was made of the purification efficiency of three-component model solutions containing various amounts of iron, copper and nickel ions, and industrial wastewater containing the same amount of the above ions, using a sorbent obtained from sludge from a water treatment site. It has been established that in three-component model solutions, depending on the initial concentration, the efficiency of purification from iron ions is from 40 to 90 %, copper ions from 80 to 100 %, nickel ions from 90 to 100 %. In industrial wastewater, the efficiency of cleaning from iron ions is above 50 %, copper ions above 70 %, nickel ions from 60 to 80 %, depending on their initial concentration. It is shown that the use of this sorbent is promising for use in industrial enterprises both at the initial and final stages of wastewater treatment from iron, copper and nickel ions.

It has been shown that the freezing-thawing method allows a sharp increase in the water-yielding capacity of water treatment sludge (WTS sludge) and leads to an increase in the median particle size of the dispersed phase of sludge. The distribution of bound water types in WTP sludge was studied using thermogravimetry (TG), differential thermal thermogravimetry (DTG), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and mass spectrometry of gaseous thermolysis products (MS). It has been established that the release of water and carbon dioxide is completely completed at a temperature of 600°C. The specific surface area of the solid phase of WTP sludge before and after freezing-thawing was determined. The pore size distribution was studied. The BET isotherm of WTP sludge corresponds to mesoporous sorbents.
