Based on interviews with Swedish adoptive families, this qualitative article explores children and parents’ motives for a family adoption return trip (to the country of origin of the adopted child).Through a combination of theories about contemporary parenthood and children’s perspectives, the stories of children and parents are explored both together and separately. The article shows that it is primarily the parents, sometimes in consultation with the children, who initiate the trips. The analysis also shows that adoption return trips are associated with opportunities as well as risks for both parents and children. Parents carefully consider when to take a return trip. Is it when the child is young or when she or he is older? The article shows how adoption return trips are constructed through conversations between children and parents. Return trips are informedby a dynamic and contradictory network of general recommendations, fears, expectations, and desires to do what is ”right” for the child in the now and in the future.

The purpose of this article is to provide a summary of microaggressive (MA) and microinclusive (MI) issues in college teaching. In MA communications, individuals/ groups are treated as invisible or comparatively less desirable. MA can have a detrimental impact on its targets (to whom comments or behaviors are directed) as well as bystanders who witness the aggression. As part of ethics in family scholarship, it is worthwhile for faculty to consider MA and learn about more prosocial/supportive options, such as MI. This article provides a brief overview of MA, MI teaching, ethical approaches to MA/MI guidance, and MI teaching examples in one family science course. These issues are also relevant to coursework in other HDFS department programs or tracks (e.g., developmental, policy and practice, therapy, community education). One way in which intercountry adoptees can elaborate on their past history is through travelling to their country of birth. This article explores the memories and experiences recalled by a group of adoptees who visited their homeland after being adopted as children by Italian families. The sample comprised 34 participants aged between 12 and 40 years who visited their birth country between 2000 and 2013. In 2017–2018, they were asked to complete a questionnaire designed to obtain retrospective recall of their experiences and feelings on return to Italy, and how their ethnic identity and psychological well-being had been affected by the trip. The results revealed that the adoptees’ emotional experiences during the return visit significantly affected their feelings towards adoption itself and that it changed their sense of belonging both to Italy and the country where they were born. Most also perceived their return travel as a momentous occasion which increased their overall knowledge about their birth country and its culture. The results are significant for providing new information about how international adoptees incorporate their homeland culture into their lives.
