Aim/Purpose: This study is based on the DeLone and McLean’s Information Systems Success (D&M ISS) model, which was modified to determine the success factors responsible for the acceptance of an e-learning system called Canvas by students of a Nigerian University. Background: The adoption of eLearning has been under studied within the context of developing countries. There have been calls in the literature for further research from a developing country perspective. This study attempts to fill this knowledge gap by investigating the factors responsible for students’ adoption of eLearning in a Nigerian University. Methodology: The study was built on the premise that system quality (SQ), service quality (ServQ) and information quality (IQ) are determinants of behavioral intention to use Canvas and user satisfaction of Canvas, both of which in turn influence the actual usage of Canvas. Responses from 366 students were analyzed with AMOS 22 using structural equation model (SEM) to test the relationships between the constructs of the proposed model. Contribution: The study contributes to the research gap about the paucity of studies in the adoption of eLearning in developing countries that have placed emphasis on the use of eLearning systems or on the software quality attributes of the systems under investigation. Findings: The results partially supported the effect of the quality antecedents on behavioral intention and user satisfaction of students. There was full support for the relationship between behavioral intention and user satisfaction of students on their actual usage of Canvas. Recommendations for Practitioners: The level of significance of the constructs identified in the study will guide the formulation of strategies and methods that could further enhance the adoption of eLearning systems in developing countries, specifically Nigeria. Recommendation for Researchers: Theoretically, the study contributes to the body of knowledge on eLearning adoption by empirically validating the DeLone and McLean model in a different context, specifically sub-Saharan Africa. Future Research: Future research could investigate the factors that influence instructors’ behavioral intentions to use eLearning applications and also the effect that the instructors have on students’ adoption of eLearning.

This review paper examines the prior studies on critical factors of e-learning adoption in Nigeria. The search terms identified 40 papers reporting 25 conceptual and qualitative and 15 quantitative evidence about the e-learning adoption and critical factors that may influence the adoption of e-learning in Nigeria. The findings revealed that modern paradigm shift requires the in-depth analysis of government policies, institutional and management role, students and faculty attitude, social norms, cultural values as well as technological advancement. These factors may directly or indirectly affect the intention of students towards e-learning adoption. The lack of quantitative evidences illustrate that policy makers, practitioners and researchers need to pay attention for further research of identifying and analyzing the critical factors which enhances the e-learning adoption in Nigeria.

Student’s Acceptance of Learning Management Systems: A Case Study of the National Open University of Nigeria

This research examines the key factors that influence the acceptance of learning management systems (LMS') by students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). To achieve this, the constructs from previous studies on eLearning acceptance were adopted to develop a conceptual model. Based on the model, structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to the data obtained from 384 students. The results indicated that instructor quality is a determinant of learning value and perceived usefulness; system quality is a determinant of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness; perceived ease of use, facilitating conditions, learning value, and perceived use-fullness are significant predictors of behavioral intention. Also, facilitating conditions and behavioral intention significantly predicted the usage of the LMS by the students. Contrary to expectations, the following relationships were found to be non-significant: course quality to learning value and perceived usefulness; and social influence on behavioral intentions. The conceptual model used in this study attains an acceptable fit and explains its variance for 67% of the student sample. This study contributes to the formulation of policies and guidelines to improve student's acceptance of learning management systems in developing countries. The paper also adds to the existing body of technology acceptance literature.
