Así, periodistas que en España habían luchado por la democracia, a favor de una República Federal, arribaban a un México que si bien garantizaba la paz, la estabilidad y el progreso, no se comprometía con muchas de las libertades asociadas al liberalismo. Estos individuos tuvieron una relación desigual tanto con el gobierno de Porfirio Díaz como con los directores de otras publicaciones españolistas.
