Adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis and their parents have a positive attitude towards the Thermobrace monitor: results from a survey

Abstract: BackgroundA temperature monitor is used to objectively measure brace wear time in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. The reliability of this device have been demonstrated, and some specialists introduced the use of a compliance monitor as a standard of care in everyday clinical practice, as we did since 2010 with the Thermobrace (TB). The attitude towards these objective monitors has never been investigated. The present study aims to investigate the attitude of parents and patients towards the use of temperature … Show more

“…In fact, the use of Thermobrace in all subjects with a brace prescription has been shown to also contribute to the cognitive behavioral approach [ 15 ], which is able to enhance compliance. In a recently published survey, scoliosis patients and their families showed a very positive attitude towards these electronic devices [ 16 ].…”

“…Thermobrace is a temperature sensor that is applied to the brace to monitor its actual wearing. It helps to optimize the therapies and helps doctors to understand the real effectiveness of the braces [ 11 , 63 , 64 ]. One of the key concerns in brace treatment is the lack of information on the forces that are being applied by the brace on the torso.…”

“…Several literature studies [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ] have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of corrective orthoses. These studies mainly considered the selection of the effective brace type and predictive factors (compliance, curve magnitude, growth stage, body mass index, and exercise potential) that contribute to promising outcomes.…”
