Admission Plasma Leptin Level Strongly Correlates With the Success of Thrombolytic Therapy in Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction

Abstract: Obesity-associated alterations in coagulation and fibrinolytic factors in favor of thrombosis are well known. Observations suggest that leptin, a recently discovered obesity gene product, in addition to being a satiety factor, induces platelet aggregation, accelerates formation of firm thrombi, and is associated with abnormal fibrinolysis. The authors studied the influence of plasma leptin concentrations on admission within 6 hours of acute myocardial infarction (MI) on the outcome of thrombolytic therapy (TT)… Show more

“…hyperleptinemia decreased the chance of successful reperfusion . Left ventricular ejection fraction was slightly but significantly higher in patients with admission plasma leptin concentrations ≥14 ng/mL than in patients with admission plasma leptin concentrations <14 ng/m ( p  = 0.031) [25]. Another study involving 30 consecutive AMI patients with a similar profile to the current one, showed that leptin levels reached its peak on the second day of hospitalization, with a 2-fold increase from baseline level on admission ( p  < 0.02).…”

“…Wolk et al [60] followed up 504 patients who had undergone coronary angiography for both stable angina (SA) and ACS for up to 4 years. In the field of ACS, admission plasma leptin levels is associated with the success of thrombolytic therapy in patients with STEMI presenting < 6 h [63] . In particular, authors found higher rates of thrombolysis failure in patients with basal plasma leptin levels ≥ 14 ng/mL, in comparison with patients with levels less than 14 ng/mL.…”

“…повышенный уровень лептина в крови является пре-диктором неэффективности тромболитической тера-пии [12]. Также имеется ограниченное количество данных о связи концентрации лептина и степени поражения коронарного русла у пациентов с ОКС [13,14].…”
