El objetivo fue caracterizar el crecimiento de aves Criollas Mexicanas (CMX), Hy-Line Brown (HLB) y Rhode Island Red (RIR) mediante los modelos Gompertz-Laird (MNGL), Logístico (MNL), Richards (MNR) y Von Bertalanffy(MNVB). Se utilizaron 70 pollitas de cada genotipo. Cada ave fue identificada para registrar su peso de 7 a 210 d de edad. Los parámetros de los modelos se estimaron con el procedimiento NLIN (algoritmo de Marquardt) de SAS. Se calculó el coeficiente de determinación ajustado, criterio de información de Akaike y criterio de información Bayesiana, para cada caso. La tasa de crecimiento inicial (d−1) en aves CMX fue menor (0.047 15) que en aves RIR (0.071 69) y HLB (0.052 16). Con los cuatro modelos, la tasa de decaimiento en aves CMX fue menor, respecto a los otros genotipos. Asimismo, la edad al máximo crecimiento (d) en las aves CMX,RIR y HLB, varió de 49.4 a 87.9, de 60.7 a 81.6 y de 58.7 a 87.8, respectivamente. Por otro lado, el peso asintótico (g), estimado con los cuatro modelos varió de 2 068.5 a 2 644.3, de 1 902.4 a 2 250.9 y 2 096.3 a 2 464.5, en las aves CMX, RIR y HLB, respectivamente. Con el MNVB se obtuvo el mejor ajuste para los datos de las aves RIR y HLB, en contraste, el MNR fue mejor para las aves CMX, seguido del MNVB. El MNVB sería el más adecuado para el estudio simultáneo del crecimiento de aves CMX, RIR y HLB.

In the intestinal lumen, excess of oxides and sulfates interfere with the absorption of minerals due to competition from the same absorption site. Amino acids-mineral complexed (AACM) is intended to minimize these problems, which might be absorbed by different absorption sites. Then, a study including Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn) and Copper (Cu) from different sources was carried out to evaluate the performance, blood parameters and reproductive organs development of Brown Laying Hens. A total of 800 Lohmann Brown Lite were fed, from one-day-old to 182-days-old, Zn, Mn and Cu from different sources. Measurements were made from 105 to 182-days-old. The laying hens were distributed according to a completely randomized design with 20 replicates and 20 birds per experimental unit. The treatments consisted of a diet supplemented with 70, 70 and 8 mg/kg of Zn, Mn and Cu; respectively, from inorganic sources (IM). The second treatment contained 40, 40 and 2.75 mg/kg of Zn, Mn and Cu, respectively from IM plus 30, 30 and 5.25 mg/kg of Zn, Mn and Cu; respectively, from AACM sources. Performance and reproductive organs development (oviduct and ovary weight), tibia weight, liver weight, egg output and body weight, and blood variables were evaluated. Data were compared by Student’s t-test ( P < 0 . 05 ). Laying hens fed AACM reached 35% of egg output two days earlier and presented heavier tibia bone than the IM group. Those hens also presented greater oviduct weight, greater hematocrit and greater serum concentration of total leukocytes, erythrocytes, eosinophils, monocytes and the hormones T4 and FSH, than the hens fed IM. The supplementation of AACM in laying hens’ diets since one-day-old improves the productive performance from the beginning of egg output to peak production, which is justified by better development of bones and oviduct, hormone production and immune system support.

The description of the growth of the Japanese quails is necessary to characterize the genetic potential of these birds raised in different countries. Thus, the aim of this study was to describe the genetic potential of Japanese quails by conducting a meta-analysis considering studies conducted in different countries. Only data about the subspecies Coturnix coturnix japonica were considered; studies regarding Coturnix coturnix coturnix were not examined. The criteria investigated were BW (W), age (t), year of publication and location of the study. Each set of genetic material within a publication was coded as one study. The Gompertz function was used to interpret the growth of laying quails; thus, each study was represented by Gompertz parameters. The W and t data were applied to estimate the values of Gompertz growth parameters, including BW at maturity (Wm), BW at birth (Wi), maturity rate (B) and inflection point (IP). The age at which the maximum growth rate was achieved (t*) was calculated considering the parameters Wm, Wi and B. To estimate these parameters, random regression was used to randomize the parameter Wm. The parameters estimated for each assay were used in exploratory, grouping, and principal component analyses. The values of Wi ranged from 4.1 to 11.6 g. The values of B ranged from 0.0393 to 0.1039/day, and consequently, the values of t* and IP ranged from 14 to 31 days and 9.21 to 31.03 g, respectively. These results show that there is considerable variability in the growth potential of Japanese quails. To better understand this variation, two groups were examined: Brazil and other countries, according to the grouping of Wi, Wm, B and t*; parameter B was the variable that presented the highest specificity, indicating that both groups modified the maturity rate. For the principal component analysis, the year of publication showed a relationship with the growth parameters but only for studies performed in Brazil. For studies carried out in other countries, the changes in growth parameters were not related to the year of publication. In Brazilian studies, there was a decrease in the maturity rate, but the weight at maturity was higher. Therefore, it appears that different strategies of genetic selection were adopted in Brazil compared to other countries.
