Adipogenesis for soft tissue reconstruction

Abstract: Purpose of reviewIt has been increasingly common to use adipose tissue for regenerative and reconstructive purposes. Applications of autologous fat transfer and different stem cell therapies have significant limitations and adipose tissue engineering may have the potential to be an important strategy in the reconstruction of large tissue defects. A better understanding of adipogenesis will help to develop strategies to make adipose tissue more effective for repairing volumetric defects. Recent findingsWe provi… Show more

“…Recent advances in plastic and reconstructive medicine have allowed autologous stem cell therapy [40,41,42,43,44,45]. As we recently reported [13], it is evident that autologous stem cell therapy is able to retrieve the abrogated function of skin.…”

“…Therefore, tissue engineering remains one of the essential goals that should be aimed for when studying adipogenesis. The previously mentioned culture models may be very useful in enhancing the growth of this field [ 140 ]. Grafting is surely not the sole method to exploit the versatility of this tissue.…”

“…Adipogenesis is important for the regeneration of large soft tissue defects [20,21]. A better understating of adipogenesis in soft tissue reconstruction, as well as cellular physiology and factors influencing adipogenesis, will help to develop strategies to make adipose tissue more effective for repairing large defects caused by various pathologies and trauma.…”
