“…It must primarily have bioadhesive properties to ensure that it is retained in the mouth for the required period of time. (Mizrahi et al 2004) Mucoadhesion is influenced by drug and added excipient and concentration of polymeric compounds. Increase in the concentration of polymeric components significantly enhances formulation compressibility, adhesiveness, mucoadhesion and syringibility.…”

“…Adhesive tablets were prepared by compression molding of mixed powders of crosslinked polyacrylic acid and HPC, absorbed with citrus oil and magnesium salt. Tablets adhere well to the mucosal tissue and gradually erode for 8 h releasing the citrus oil whereas the magnesium is released during a period of 2 h. Both experimental and plain tablets were effective in reducing pain and decreasing healing time without adverse side effects, and the tablets loaded with active agents were more effective [132]. Figure 5 shows a male who had recurrent aphthous stomatitis, with a 7 mm diameter canker sore in the left lip before, during, and after treatment with the mucoadhesive tablet.…”

“…They can be found in drug delivery systems (12), mucoadhesive forms (13), synthesis of nanoparticles by the sol-gel method (14), and in ophthalmic and vaginal preparations (15), to name a few of their diverse applications. Eudragit® L 100 and Eudragit® S 100 are anionic copolymers based on methacrylic acid and methyl methacrylate.…”
