ADGRL3, FGF1 and DRD4: Linkage and Association with Working Memory and Perceptual Organization Candidate Endophenotypes in ADHD

Abstract: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly heritable neurobehavioral disorder that affects children worldwide, with detrimental long-term consequences in affected individuals. ADHD-affected patients display visual–motor and visuospatial abilities and skills that depart from those exhibited by non-affected individuals and struggle with perceptual organization, which might partially explain impulsive responses. Endophenotypes (quantifiable or dimensional constructs that are closely related to th… Show more

“…Besides, DRD4 -rs916457 has been linked with abnormal neuropsychological tasks outlining working memory and perceptual organization in ADHD patients ( Cervantes-Henriquez et al, 2021 ). The DRD4 -521 C/T SNP regulates the transcription rate and expression for DRD4 which affects the level of dopamine in the brain ( Zhang et al, 2021a ).…”

“…TAR RNA Binding Protein 1 ( TARBP1) DNA methylation is related to ADHD symptoms in adulthood and childhood ( Weiß et al, 2021 ). ADGRL3 -rs1565902 is linked with ADHD in the Caribbean population ( Cervantes-Henriquez et al, 2021 ). Atrophilin-3 [LPHN3; or ADGRL (3)] is a synaptic adhesion G protein-coupled receptor that binds to fibronectin leucine rich transmembrane protein 3 and teneurin-3 (FLRT3 and TEN-3) ( Regan et al, 2019 ).…”

“…Currently, our research group studies the differential expression of ncRNA in subjects with Alzheimer's disease compared to healthy subjects. We also plan to study the exosomal load in patients with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder [359][360][361][362][363][364] and HIV and Huntington's disease [365,366]. Funding: This study was financed by MINCIENCIAS, project "Nuevos ARN no codificantes exosomales y su papel en la patogénesis de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer", code 121584468097, grant 844/2019, contract 416-2020, awarded to Grupo en Genética y Medicina Molecular and Grupo de Productividad y Competitividad, Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla, Colombia.…”

“…e dopamine D4 receptor is involved in transmitting neural signals to the brain's mesolimbic system, which regulates emotions and complex behavior (Wang et al, 2017). e association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the DRD4 gene with the functioning of working memory and perception was shown in a study on a South American family-based sample (Cervantes-Henriquez et al, 2021).…”
