Adarcias: An Almond × Peach Hybrid Rootstock

Abstract: Prunus amygdalo-persica, propagation planting density when tree size needs to be controlled, or to reduce production costs. Compatibility Adarcias has shown good compatibility with 20 tested peach and nectarine cultivars. It also has been tested with almond [P. dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb]. This rootstock also is graft-compatible with Japanese plum (P. salicina Lindl.) cultivars, although the range of cultivars tested is not extensive. The compatibility with European plum and prune (P. domestica L.) cultivars dep… Show more

“…Since 1970, the Estación Experimental de Aula Dei (EEAD) (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), Zaragoza, Spain, has engaged in a rootstock breeding program to obtain successful peach x almond hybrids. Adafuel (Cambra, 1990), Adarcias (Moreno and Cambra, 1994) ) Batsch] were tested for 11 to 12 years in three experiments. 'Loadel' scions were grafted on Adafuel, Adarcias, Albatarrech, Calanda, and GF 677 hybrids.…”

“…In the Mediterranean area, there is a widespread use of peach • almond hybrids (Prunus persica • Prunus dulcis) as peach rootstocks because they are tolerant and/or resistant to variety of biotic and abiotic stresses (Byrne et al, 1990;Felipe, 2009;Kester and Asay, 1986;Pinochet, 2009) and are generally graftcompatible with peach cultivars (Cambra, 1990;Moreno and Cambra, 1994;Moreno et al, 1994b). However, these rootstocks are known to be extremely vigorous (Wertheim and Webster, 2005;Zarrouk et al, 2005) and relatively sensitive to waterlogging (Okie and Weinberger, 1996).…”

“…Furthermore, previous results show that Garnem is easily propagated both as hardwood cuttings and in vitro grown microshoot cuttings [ 9 ]. In addition, other rootstocks such as Adafuel and Adarcias display high to moderate rooting capacity, respectively, as previously described [ 15 ], and are suitable for peach production in low nutrient calcareous soils [ 14 , 16 ].…”
