Video streaming from sensors and miniaturized devices is attractive for a wide range of web-based applications, e.g., remote surveillance. Existing web-based video streaming frameworks, such as the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) live streaming (HLS) and the motion picture experts group's dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH), have dependencies between the individual video segments and a manifest file that contains video metadata. Also, existing web-based video players are limited to fetching video segments over TCP/IP networks. The video segment dependencies complicate video segment distribution by resource-constrained source nodes, which may employ non-TCP/IP protocols, such as Zigbee. This paper proposes and evaluates a wireless video sensor network platform compatible DASH (WVSNP-DASH) framework and a WVSNP-DASH player (WDP) for flexible web-based access of video from sensors and other miniaturized source nodes. The WVSNP-DASH framework is based on independently playable video segments with a specific naming syntax that conveys elementary metadata so as to facilitate flexible search, transfer, distribution, and playback. The WDP employs elementary processes of version 5 of the hypertext markup language (HTML5) for video buffering and playback. Video segments are fetched into the HTML5 file system space, permitting flexible video fetching over a wide range of protocols, including sensor network protocols. Comparative evaluations of a WDP prototype with optimized HLS and MPEG-DASH players indicate that WDP has low client (receiver) load, while providing significant potential for power savings on the source node serving the video streams.Index Terms-Dynamic adaptive HTTP streaming (DASH), HTTP live streaming (HLS), HTML5 file system (FS), video distribution, video streaming, wireless video sensor.

-Spatial sound has a conceptual role in the Web3D environments, due to highly realism scenes that can provide. Lately the efforts are concentrated on the extension of the X3D/ X3DOM through spatial sound attributes. This paper presents a novel method for the introduction of spatial sound components in the X3DOM framework, based on X3D specification and Web Audio API. The proposed method incorporates the introduction of enhanced sound nodes for X3DOM which are derived by the implementation of the X3D standard components, enriched with accessional features of Web Audio API. Moreover, several examples-scenarios developed for the evaluation of our approach. The implemented examples established the achievability of new registered nodes in X3DOM, for spatial sound characteristics in Web3D virtual worlds.

In recent years, with the emergence of HTML5, the Web has managed to evolve from an Internet application for information announcement and exchange to a toolkit provided for pervasive, ubiquitous and collaborative services. In this context, the Web can ultimately provide Real-Time Communication (RTC) services between browsers via the Internet. WebRTC is the standardized project that provides browsers and mobile applications with RTC capabilities via simple JavaScript APIs. This opens new horizons in web-based applications such as capabilities for online gaming, support for complicated 3D graphics in real-time, videoconferencing, exchanging of text messages, immersive technology, etc. In this paper, we introduce the integration of WebRTC capabilities within virtual 3D worlds and present several implementations that bridge WebRTC and X3DOM technologies. In the applications we have developed, virtual 3D collaborative environments are provided for the cooperation of web peers at real time, while they are able to manipulate a 3D scene without the use of plugins. In this context, an online educational game and an immersive conference tool supporting all types of real-time communication such as video chat, text messaging and the use of social media, both using WebRTC over X3DOM, are presented and thoroughly discussed.
