Adaptive OFDM‐IM for Enhancing Physical Layer Security and Spectral Efficiency of Future Wireless Networks

Abstract: In this paper, we propose algorithms for enhancing physical layer security and spectral efficiency of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Index Modulation (IM) systems. Particularly, different activation ratios and/or Constellation Modulation orders are selected adaptively for each subblock based on the channel quality of the legitimate receiver. More specifically, three approaches named as (1) OFDM with Adaptive Index Modulation and Fixed Constellation Modulation (OFDM-AIM-FCM), (2) OFDM wi… Show more

“…Regarding the two-way information exchange processes, which are Figures 16 to 19, 1 achieves better secrecy trade-off performance than other users. This is also because of the order of user decoding process as described in (15) to (22) and (25) to (32). These observations are consistent with the derived analytical and asymptotic expressions.…”

“…It is also observed from Figure 8 and 9 that the untrustworthy relay terminal is being active roughly between −10 and 10 − 15 dB for the different users in the HD-based TWR case. The differences arise because of the user decoding process as described in (19), (20), (21),and (22). Beyond 15 dB, the untrustworthy relay terminal gets out of order and saturates.…”

“…By involving the concept of the permuted OFDM block, for T (k) < N we can express (22) in an alternative form: 6 One should note that the concept of permuted OFDM block introduced in analytical derivations is simply for facilitating the error performance analysis and expression of results, but will not amend the actual transmission procedure of enhanced OFDM-SNM.…”
