Adaptive multi-polling scheduler for QoS support of video transmission in IEEE 802.11e WLANs

Abstract: The 802.11E Task Group has been established to enhance Quality of Service (QoS) provision for time-bounded services in the current IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The QoS is introduced throughout Hybrid Coordination Function Controlled Channel Access (HCCA) for the rigorous QoS provision. In HCCA, the station is allocated a fixed Transmission Opportunity (TXOP) based on its TSPEC parameters so that it is efficient for Constant Bit Rate streams. However, as the profile of Variable Bit Rate (VB… Show more

“…A new scheme called adaptive multi‐polling TXOP (AMTXOP) has been proposed, which calculates the TXOP for a certain data stream based on the actual frame size. Since the polling messages can increase the overheard among all QSTAs, one multi‐polling message is broadcasted to all QSTAs in a single SI instead of sending one polling message for each.…”

“…Due to its unique conflict-free transmission mode, pollingbased MAC protocol has always been a hot topic in WSNs research [5,6]. With the development of research, its service mode has been continuously expanded [7][8][9]. Kunikawa and Yomo proposed a polling MAC protocol based on EH-WSN, which improves the throughput of WSNs nodes [10].…”

“…The polling access control mechanism is crucial in wireless sensor networks [1,2] . Research regarding polling systems by domestic and foreign scholars mainly focuses on the single server [3] . When handling massive data, a single server will exhibit some problems, such as excessive workload, long response time, and long average delay.…”
