Adaptation of an electrochemical system for measurement and regulation of oxygen partial pressure to a symmetrical thermogravimetric analysis system developed using a Cahn 1000 electrobalance

Abstract: We report equipment consisting of the coupling of an electrochemical system for measurement and regulation of oxygen partial pressure (PO2) to a symmetrical thermogravimetric analysis system built on the basis of a Cahn 1000 electrobalance. The electrochemical system allows the measurement and regulation of PO2 within a few percent, and has the additional advantage that it can be checked against systematic errors in an absolute way by means of the ’’Faraday’s law test.’’ The performance of the whole experiment… Show more

“…A highly sensitive thermogravimetric equipment consisting of a symmetrical thermobalance based on a Cahn 1000 electrobalance coupled to a ZrO 2 -based oxygen pump and sensor system 36 was used, which allows determination of sample mass changes within ±10 μg with 0.6 g of STF37 powder. The oxygen partial pressure (pO 2 ) was varied between 10 −25 and 1 bar by using O 2 -Ar and H 2 -H 2 O mixtures.…”

“…The pO 2 was controlled and sensed using an electrochemical gas blending system consisting of a zirconia pump and oxygen sensor 39 coupled to the impedance test system. The EIS spectra were fit using an electrical equivalent circuit with an inductor (L) in series with a resistor (R el ) and a Gerischer-type element (Z G ) applying a MatLab code.…”

“…Equilibrium Po2 measurements were performed with thermogravimetric equipment consisting of a symmetrical thermobalance based on a Cahn 1000 electrobalance coupled to an electrochemical system for the measurement and control of P%, specially designed for this kind of study [22]. The electrochemical system (zirconla pump and oxygen sensor) [23] provides a controlled Ar-O2 atmosphere for the thermobalance, with Poe ranging from 1.01xl02 to 10 -4 kPa.…”
