Haematological parameters, such as erythrocyte and leucocyte count, erythrocyte indices and thrombocyte number vis-a-vis coagulation of blood has been considered bioindicators of toxicosis in fish following exposure to organochlorine, organophosphate, carbamate and pyrethroid insecticides. This review deals with the effects of insecticides on the morphology of red blood cells, total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin content, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, total and differential leucocyte counts, thrombocyte count and clotting time in the peripheral blood of a number of teleosts. The review also takes stock of knowledge of the subject and explores prospects of additional research in the related area.

Although Endosulfan was banned in some countries such as Germany, UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Colombia and Singapore, Endosulfan is still widely used in the rice fields in most of the developing countries, because of its effectiveness and low application cost (Shanahan 2003;Siang et al 2007). Because Endosulfan is still widely used in China, more effective measure should be taken to minimize its potential risk.…”

A tiered approach consisting of several probabilistic options was used to refine aquatic ecological risk assessment (ERA) of individuals and mixture of various Organochlorine Pesticides (OCPs) detected in Jiangsu reach of Huaihe River, China. The tiered approach ranged from determined Hazard Quotient (HQ) to Joint Probability Curve and Monte Carlo simulation based HQ-distribution. The results from all levels of ERA methods in the tiered framework are consistent with each other. The results show that Endrin, o,p'-Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane (DDT), alpha-Endosulfan and beta-Endosulfan posed clear ecological risk; p,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDD, Aldrin, Heptachlorepoxide and Methoxychlor posed potential risk; while Hexachlorocyclohexanes, Heptachlor, Dieldrin and Hexachlorobenzene posed negligible risk. Further, based on the concept of total equivalent concentration, combined ecological risk caused by the mixture of all detected OCPs was calculated, and it proved to be significantly higher than the risk caused by any individual OCP. Despite inevitable uncertainties in current ERA, a comprehensive tiered approach can help to get a more credible result of risks of individuals and mixture of hazardous pollutants and screen the major risk pollutants contributing to the combined ecological risk.

Pesticides are environmental contaminants that after use in agriculture, aquatic ecosystems are entered. These contaminants can enter the food chain and can cause problems for aquatic organisms and even humans. During the acute toxicity of this herbicide paraquat on some blood parameters, Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi (the total number of red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, and total white blood cell count, hematocrit and blood indices) in fisheries laboratories, Khorramshahr University of Marine Science and Technology were studied. The sub lethal toxicity studies of 40 fish in 4 treated on the basis of three different treatments LC 50 96 h (25, 50 and 75 percent LC 50 96 h), and a control treatment for 96 hours were exposed to the pesticides paraquat. 10 fish were randomly distributed into plastic containers 25 liters. Tests based on standard methods O.E.C.D were on the fish and the static. The number of red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, percent hematocrit, white blood cell count, MCV, MCH and MCHC Mesopotamichthys sharpeyi at different concentrations after 96 h with the control treatment significantly reduced (0.05 > P) that was directly affected by different concentrations of the paraquat.
