“…Two of them occurred late, and it is difficult to evaluate whether they had been caused by the fluorescein angiography. In two of them, the procedure may have caused myocardial infarction as the pain started after 2 and 30 min (Deglin et al 1977;Wesley et al 1979). In our series we had 9 patients with chest pain during or immediately after the procedure.…”

“…There are at least four cases of acute myocardial infarction reported in the literature in connection with fluorescein angiography (Amalric et al 1968;Deglin et al 1977;Wesley et al 1979;Pacurariu 1982). Two of them occurred late, and it is difficult to evaluate whether they had been caused by the fluorescein angiography.…”

“…Intravenous administration of sodium fluorescein can cause numerous adverse reactions, 12–18 which have been described as anaphylactoid because most symptoms resemble those of histamine release, that is, urticaria, itching, hives, or facial oedema. Gastrointestinal distress resulting in nausea and vomiting is the most common reaction, but reactions also can be of much greater severity including pulmonary oedema, myocardial infarction 13–15 and shock 13,16 . Twenty‐one per cent of patients reported some adverse reactions after intravenous infusion of fluorescein 17 .…”

“…The most common frequent side-effect is urticaria, which occurs in approximately 0.5% of the patients (4, 7). However, more serious anaphylactic reactions, tonic-clonic seizures, cardic arrest, myocardial infarction and death have also been reported (4,7,(14)(15)(16).…”
