Acute Myocardiac Infarctions and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) : a Literature Review

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is known to be a metabolic disorder happened to be chronic and identified with persistent hyperglycemia. It might be due to insulin secretion, insulin resistance or both disorders. Coronary artery disease is known to be the top killer in the world. According to WHO, as much as 17.5 million people died of cardiovascular disease. Diabetes mellitus and its correlation with coronary artery disease have been acknowledge since ages ago and known to be separate entities. As one of the risk factors, the hyperglycemia caused by DM might affect patients by enhancing the process of early atherosclerosis that attach the vital organs.
