The densit ies of 22 la rge h igh ly perfect sil icon single crystals have been meas ur ed by hydrostatic weighing in water, y ieldin g a n aver age value of ds ; (25°C) = 2.329002 ± (7 X 10-6) g/cm 3 .An experimental precision has been achieved whic h exceeds the acc uracy wit h which t he absolute dens ity of water is known. The effect of variations of the water surface t ens ion force on the sus pen sion wire has been m imized by using a 0.001 in . suspen sion wire coated with plat inum blac k, a nd by doin g a la rge number of r epeated weighings of each crystal.
