Acute Hypotensive and Diuretic Activities of Chamaemelum nobile Aqueous Extract in Normal Rats

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the effect of Chamaemelum nobile (Cn) intravenous injection on cardiovascular and renal function of normal rats. Intravenous bolus injection of Cn at the dose of 50, 100 and 200 mg kg , produced dose dependent reduction in arterial blood pressure (p<0.001). Significant reduction in heart frequency was observed after Cn injection at a dose of 100 and 200 mg kg −1 (p<0.001). Perfusion of Cn aqueous extract at a dose of 200 mg kg −1 h −1 caused a significant increase in urine output af… Show more

“…Chamomile tea has been used as a remedy for heart attack in folk medicine . The hypocholesterolaemic effect of chamomile extract has been demonstrated in animal and human studies. “…Drinking chamomile was associated with a significant increase in urinary levels of hippurate and glycine, which have been associated with increased antibacterial activity (57). In another study, chamomile relieved hypertensive symptoms and decreased the systolic blood pressure significantly, increasing urinary output (58). Additional studies are needed before a more definitive link between chamomile and its alleged health benefits can be established.…”

“…Also, has been reported to have antibacterial, antipyretic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory as well as ulcer protective effect [38][39][40]. Matricaria chamomilla which have been associated with relieved hypertensive symptoms and decreases the systolic blood pressure, increasing urinary output and may be lead to decrease the numbers of pathogenic bacteria in urinary tract [41]. Also, drinking M. chamomilla was associated with increase in urinary levels of hippurate and glucine, which have been associated with increased antibacterial activity [42].…”
