Fatal Clostridium welchii septicaemia following acute cholecystis

McKibbin and Parks (1974) emphasized the importance of demonstrating gas in the gallbladder on a straight X-ray of of the abdomen which is usually evident within 24-48 hours of the onset of symptoms. All of these reported features were absent in the present case, which raises the importance of early effective antibiotic therapy to include an anticlostridial agent when treating infections of the biliary tract.…”
