“…Lignin has potential as a natural antioxidant additive in food packaging due to its polyphenolic structure (Domenek et al 2013;Faustino et al 2010;Vinardell et al 2008;Vostrejs et al 2020;Yang et al 2020;Zadeh et al 2019). The lignin with narrow polydispersity, low molecular weight, more phenolic hydroxyl groups, and less aliphatic hydroxyl groups showed high antioxidant activity (Pan et al 2006).…”

“…It acted not only as an antioxidant but also as a nucleating agent. Moreover, it increased the stiffness and degree of crystallinity of the film and contributed to the lower oxygen and carbon dioxide permeability of the film (Vostrejs et al 2020). The antioxidant activity of lignin monomers has significant differences regarding their initial radical scavenging activity.…”

“…Therefore, the use of PHA in many industrial sectors is subjected to price. It makes sense to find such PHA' applications where except to biocompatibility and biodegradability also other added values are given (17). Nevertheless, the current market situation shows that the demand for biopolymers began to grow gradually.…”

“…PHAs have been found suitable for medical applications (19,20), food packaging (17,21), toys, disposable tableware (22), agricultural applications (23, 24), automotive, cosmetic (25), textile (26), household applications and more recently in 3D printing. Each of the applications requires different processing of the materials to meet the required properties.…”

“…Examples of widely used synthetics include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), and tertiary butylated hydroquinone (TBHQ) [ 24 , 25 , 26 ]. Research on natural AOs have centered around phenolics, polyphenolics, bioactive pigments, and tannin substances commonly obtained from plant extracts, such as coffee, cocoa [ 27 , 28 ], tea [ 29 ], grapes [ 30 ], citrus fruits [ 31 ], spices and medicinal herbs [ 32 ], and agricultural waste products (berries fruits or tuberous vegetables) [ 33 ].…”
