Activated carbon of Babassu coconut impregnated with copper nanoparticles by green synthesis for the removal of nitrate in aqueous solution

Abstract: The present study was conducted to impregnate the surface of a carbon of vegetable origin with copper nanoparticles by the green synthesis method with the aqueous extract of Hibiscus sabdariffa flowers, rich in phenolic compounds, which are responsible for the reduction and impregnation of metal nanoparticles. Batch adsorption assays were conducted aimed at nitrate removal with pure (GAC) and impregnated (IGAC) carbon, for comparative purposes. It was found that impregnation increases the efficiency of the car… Show more

“…Other peaks also related in the literature were found at 2 θ = 22.64°, 36.52°, 47.24°, 50.98°, and 56.07° which refers to Cu(NO 3 ) 2 oxidation 42–44 . Finally, the peak located at 28.34° is related to the interference caused by the quartz used 45 …”

“…[42][43][44] Finally, the peak located at 28.34 is related to the interference caused by the quartz used. 45 The average diameter of the synthesized CuO_NP was calculated using Scherer's formula. The value obtained was approximately 27.00 nm, which corroborates with the TEM images and other studies reported in the literature.…”

“…1 (A) ) presents heterogeneous morphological characteristics since the pores are well defined, deep and distributed throughout the adsorbent surface. These characteristics are typical of GAC ( Paixão et al, 2018 ; Vidovix et al, 2019a ). The surface rough appearance proves the functionalization of the activated carbon with GO ( Fachina et al, 2020 ).…”

“…The CFN molecule presents the dimensions 0.78 nm/0.61 nm/0.21 nm , this means that the pore diameter of the biochar, 45.48 nm, is much larger than the dimensions of the CFN molecule, which allows the molecule to access the available active sites inside the pores for adsorption [45]. Regarding the surface area, the value of 678.03 m 2 /g -1 is acceptable for the adsorption process when related to the materials used for comparison [46][47][48][49][50][51]. The N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms are shown in Figure 1(b), they are classified as type IV, characteristic of mesoporous material.…”
