Activated carbon from cassava peel: A promising electrode material for supercapacitors

Abstract: Supercapacitors are common devices in electrical circuits that produce electrical pulses at high power levels in short periods of time. Electrodes for supercapacitors were prepared with activated carbon. Activated carbon was obtained from cassava peels treated by chemical activation with potassium hydroxide (KOH) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4), each at two different concentrations and at one carbonization temperature. Electrochemical performance of the prepared electrodes was obtained by means of cyclic voltammet… Show more

“…El uso de desechos agrícolas como precursores del carbón activado han resultado ser renovables y rentables económicamente (Hesas et al, 2013), es por eso que muchos investigadores emplean subproductos de origen vegetal para su producción (Yahya et al, 2015). Ospino et al (2022), prepararon carbones activados a partir de cáscara de yuca tratada mediante activación química con…”

“…Biomass-derived activated carbon contains hemicellulose and lignin, which contribute to its capacitive properties for energy storage [5. Some sources of biomass active carbon are obtained from corn cobs, coconut shells, straw, orange peel, cassava, and bamboo [6][7][8][9][10][11]. Activated carbon is obtained from the activation process of biomass carbon precursors.…”

“…The literature commonly indicates, based on elemental analysis, that carbon materials treated at a temperature as high as 950 °C sometimes contain even more than 10% mass of oxygen (e.g., ). Such a statement does not raise any doubts or objections.…”
