The acini, which are the terminal portions of the adenomere, consist of seromucous cells, where as the convoluted tubules, which are structure between the intercalated ducts and the striated ducts, consist of serous cells (Jacob, 1959;Raynaud, 1960;Caramia, 1966;Gresik & MacRae, 1975;Chretien, 1977;Pinkstaff, 1980). The convoluted granular tubules are considerably more developed in males than in females, characterizing the marked sexual dimorphism existing in the submandibular glands of these rodents (Lacassagne, 1940;Raynaud, 1960;Chretien, 1977;Pardini, 1985;Jayasinghe, Cope & Jacob, 1990;Sawada & Noumura, 1991;Assis et al , 1994).…”
