Action du cortisol sur l'acide N-acétylneuraminique cutané chez l'Anguille intacte et hypophysectomisée en eau douce et après transfert en eau de mer

Abstract

Effect of Cortisol on N‐acetyl‐neuraminic Acid of the Skin in Intact and Hypophysectomized Eels in Fresh Water and Sea Water In fresh water, the N‐acetyl‐neuraminic acid content (ANAN) of the skin is not significantly modified after 8 or 15 injections of cortisol (500 μg/day) in intact eels (60 to 80 g); it is reduced of 25 % in hypophysectomized eels after a similar treatment. In both cases, blood sodium level is decreased. In sea water, the ANAN concentration is significantly reduced in hypophysectomized eels after 20 days only; the reduction attains at least 37 % in hypophysectomized eels injected with cortisol for 30 and 50 days compared with fresh water intact eels or sea water intact or hypophysectomized eels. The blood sodium level is not affected. These data are compared with results previously obtained on intact or hypophysectomized eels injected with ovine prolactin in fresh water or sea water for the same lengths of time; blood sodium modifications after prolactin or cortisol treatment are discussed in correlation with the ANAN content of the skin. Résumé En eau douce, le cortisol (500 μg/j) ne provoque pas de variations significatives de la teneur en acide N‐acétyl‐neuraminique (ANAN) de la peau chez l'Anguille (60–80 g) intacte après 8 ou 15 injections, mais il entraîne une chute marquée (25 %) de l'ANAN chez l'hypophysoprive par rapport aux témoins. Le cortisol abaisse la natrémie. En eau de mer, la concentration de l'ANAN n'est réduite significativement qu'au 20e j après l'hypophysectomie; elle s'abaisse chez les Anguilles hypophysectomisées recevant du cortisol pendant 30 et 50 j (chute ‐gale ou supérieure à 37 %) par rapport aux intactes en eau douce et en eau de mer et aux hypophysectomisées en eau de mer. La natrémie n'est pas modifiée. Ces résultats sont comparés à ceux obtenus chez des Anguilles traitées avec de la prolactine, en eau douce et en eau de mer pendant les mêmes durées et discutés en fonction des variations simultanées de la natrémie.
