Abstract:Effect of Cortisol on N‐acetyl‐neuraminic Acid of the Skin in Intact and Hypophysectomized Eels in Fresh Water and Sea Water
In fresh water, the N‐acetyl‐neuraminic acid content (ANAN) of the skin is not significantly modified after 8 or 15 injections of cortisol (500 μg/day) in intact eels (60 to 80 g); it is reduced of 25 % in hypophysectomized eels after a similar treatment. In both cases, blood sodium level is decreased.
In sea water, the ANAN concentration is significantly reduced in hypophysectomized eel… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
