Actinedida e Acaridida (Arachnida: Acari) edáficos de Piracicaba, estado de São Paulo

Abstract: -The objective of this work was to identify the edaphic mites of the suborders Actinedida and Acaridida collected on the campus "Luiz de Queiroz", University of São Paulo. Soil samples were taken from three different environments, i.e., a residual secondary forest, a perennial crop represented by a rubber tree plantation (Hevea brasiliensis Müll. Arg.), clone RRIM 600, and an area of annual crops (corn followed by beans). Litter samples were taken only from the secondary forest and the rubber tree plantation. … Show more

“…The high proportion of Ologamasidae, Laelapidae and Ascidae reported in this study was also reported in studies of edaphic habitats in São Paulo (MINEIRO & MORAES 2001;SILVA et al, 2004) and Alagoas (SANTOS, 2013) states. The predominance of Rhodacaridae in this study is different from what has been observed in soils of those studies.…”

“…In Brazil, studies about the diversity of mesostigmatid mites have been conducted, mostly in the southeast (MINEIRO et al, 2009;MINEIRO & MORAES, 2001;SILVA et al, 2004) and northeast (SANTOS, 2013). In these studies, the authors reported high mite diversity and abundance.…”

“…Extraction of edaphic mites from the soil samples was performed by means of a Berlese-Tullgren funnel extractor (Mineiro and Moraes 2002). In the extractor, samples were subjected to light and heat for seven days (Rieff et al 2010) to create a temperature and humidity gradient, making the environment unfavorable for mites, and forcing them down until they fall into a collector vial containing 70% alcohol.…”
